Welcome To Serra

The Serra Club of San Diego North Coast welcomes you and invites you to learn more about joining in our mission and ministry.

Serra International is a global organization of lay Catholic men and women whose objectives are:

To foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood in the Catholic Church as a particular vocation to service, and to support priests in their sacred ministry;

To encourage and affirm vocations to consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church; and

To assist its members to recognize and respond in their own lives to God's call to holiness in Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit.

"Mary, Mother of Vocations, Pray for Us"

Our Mission and Vision

Our vision is to have all people respond to God's call to their religious vocation. Our mission is to foster, affirm and promote vocations as Priests, Brothers, Sisters, Deacons and Lay Persons and have them answer their "Calling" to  ministry in the Catholic Church.

Jesus said, You did not choose me, but I chose you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide.

Pope John Paul 11 said, Every vocation is a gift from God which must be explored by prayer and merited by witness of a holy life.

Discrenment

To be called by God is to experience a deep and personal stirring within one's soul. All who believe in the person and the power of Jesus Christ, all who are baptized are called to walk with their brothers and sisters on their journey to the Lord. This is an "Open Call," a call to all Christians. Discerning a vocation is hard work, no doubt about it! It can be especially tough if you've just begun to give thought to the priesthood. Simply figuring out how to pray and who to talk to are challenging in themselves. Added to that is the fear of what others might think, especially your family and your friends. Perhaps the number one anxiety of many men is the requirement of celibacy; many dismiss the possibility of priesthood over that single issue. There are so many valuable ways that you can choose to live your life. Our Blessed Lord teaches us not to fear but to trust in Him. He can and will give us happiness if we do His will. Let the Holy Spirit work in your soul.

Question:

What would you say to a man who might be wondering if he has a vocation to the priesthood?

Answer:

Why wonder? Pray, and beg God not to allow you to become a priest if it is not His will, but if it is, ask Him to give you the strength and desire to conform to His will.

Membership

Please consider joining us for a complimentary breakfast on the second Saturday or the fourth Tuesday of the month. Our members meet at St. Patrick Church for the 8 A.M. Mass and our meeting is in the parish hall at 8:45 A.M. or right after Mass. A continental breakfast, coffe and juice is served at these meetings.

Make a World of Difference!

How many men and women in your parishes are caring and compassionate individuals who are good listeners, articulate speakers, and loving enthusiastic Catholics? How many of these special, gifted people have ever been invited to consider becoming a priest, sister, brother, permanent deacon, or full-time lay minister? Jesus said, "Come and follow me and I will make you fishers of men".

New members will become more aware, grow in their appreciation, and get involved in our club's efforts to foster and affirm vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Help us share the Serra experience by joining our mission and our ministry. The secret of Serra is prayer. Help us as we spread the mission of Serra to a world full of noise.

"Help spread the mission of Serra to a world full of noise". "The secret of Serra is prayer". Quotes from International President John Tomi Asenuga at the 2010 International Convention in Alaska.
